CHEMICAL DOMINOES
This was our first project of junior year STEM, in which we had to create a board game and incorporate chemical reactions of different types: double displacement reactions, physical change, chemical change, single displacement reactions, and the formation of a gas. The reactions were to be set up as a Rube Goldberg machine, so they occured one after another.
MY GROUP PROJECT:
My group decided to do a Disney trivia themed game, and we started by making the board game. We had a board with four different paths, one path per player. One at a time, going from player one to four, each player picks up a card with a multiple choice trivia question. If the player answered the question correctly, they could advance one space. We built a castle at the end of the board. The goal was to reach the castle before the other players to set off the reactions.
We had a separate Rube Goldberg with our reactions, which in the end would light up an LED.
Below are the instructions to play the game, and it explains all of our reactions:

REFLECTIONS:
This project was really fun, and I learned a lot about different reactions and what they did. When we presented our board game, the people who came to play the games seemed to like it, too. I had a lot of fun building the project, and channeling my "inner kid" that played board games all the time.
My group and I had a few problems while building the project. We were learning the reactions while building the project, and I think it would have made it much easier if we knew the reactions and what their effects were before the actual building process. Also, we didn't manage our time very well. My group spent most of our time working on the board game, and saved the construction for the Rube Goldberg for the last three weeks of building. That seemed like a lot of time, but it turned out to be the opposite. In the end, the Rube Gogldberg couldn't function on its own, and we had to assist it when it was set off. If we had more time, we would have improved on that.
In conclusion, the whole project was very exciting and fun.
